The Danish citizenship test
To become a Danish citizen, most applicants must pass Indfødsretsprøven: a written test about Danish society, culture, history and values. Here is how it works.

What's on the test
- 35 questions from the official study material about Danish society, culture and history.
- 5 questions about current events from roughly the last six months.
- 5 questions about Danish values, such as equality and freedom of expression.
How to sign up
You register through a test centre, usually a language centre (sprogcenter), and pay a fee. Registration closes several weeks before the test, so check the current deadline and fee with your test centre before you plan.
How to prepare
- Read the official study material once, then practise with questions.
- Learn the values questions well: you must get 4 of 5 right.
- Follow Danish news in the months before the test for the current-events questions.
- Take timed simulations until you pass them comfortably.
